Yogurt and cheese are easy to digest as compared to milk. Other dairy products may be unfavourable for some dogs but many can have them easily.
You can easily tell whether your dog is lactose intolerant or not. If you see the following symptoms in your dog right after his milk intake then he is lactose intolerant.

Some dogs might experience mild symptoms while some may have a severe reaction to milk.
How Much Milk Can A Dog Drink?
A dog can drink milk in limited quantities. A few tablespoons of goat milk or cow milk are enough, that too on an occasional basis. But do not let the dog drink too much milk. Over-dosage of milk can literally result in stomach and digestive disorders. These include loose motions, vomiting and diarrhea.
You should definitely not give the whole bowl of milk to your dog at once. Just give him a few spoons first. If he craves for more again give few spoons. That will be enough. Milk is high in natural sugars and fats. This is the main reason that you should not give excessive milk to your dog. It can lead to pancreatitis and obesity which are extreme conditions.
What Happens When Dog Drinks Milk?
When dogs drink milk, the enzyme lactase decomposes sugar in milk. Elder dogs can face more difficulty in digesting it. The undigested lactose in the milk passes through gastrointestinal tracts. It will draw water in the colon which will result in diarrhea.
Too many fats and the higher amount of sugar in the milk can lead to diarrhea in dogs. The dairy products are not so suitable for dogs due to the level of sugar in them. This can result in vomiting, abdominal pain and lose motions. Dogs can develop a serious illness called pancreatitis if they eat excess dairy products.
