What Are The Main Branches Of Chemistry

What comes to your mind when you hear the word Chemistry? Maybe scientists working on a bench dealing with different chemicals, or how different chemicals react together, or even about models of different molecules. But Chemistry is much more to that. It is one of the sciences that help us understand and make models and predictions about our reality. Pure Chemistry is further divided into five main branches. Let us learn about them.

CHEMISTRY

The Main Branches Of Chemistry

There are five main branches namely:

  • Organic Chemistry.
  • Inorganic Chemistry.
  • Bio-Chemistry.
  • Physical Chemistry.
  • Analytical Chemistry.

Organic Chemistry

It is a branch of Chemistry that deals with the compounds that contain Carbon and Hydrogen. It involves the study of structures and preparation of C-H bonds, example: Petroleum, medicines, foods, and process of photosynthesis.

Sub-branches of Organic Chemistry include:

  • Stereochemistry.
  • Organometallic chemistry
  • Physical Organic Chemistry.
  • Medicinal Chemistry.
  • Polymer Chemistry.

Organic Chemistry main branches

Inorganic Chemistry

It is a branch of Chemistry that deals with the compounds that are made up of only one or no Carbon atoms. It deals with all chemical compounds except organic compounds. The chemists who usually study this branch deal with the study of crystal structures, minerals, metals, catalysts, and most elements on the periodic table.

Sub-branches of Organic Chemistry include:

  • Bioinorganic chemistry.
  • Coordination chemistry.
  • Geochemistry.
  • Inorganic technology.
  • Nuclear chemistry.
  • Organometallic chemistry.
  • Solid-state chemistry.
  • Synthetic inorganic chemistry.
  • Industrial inorganic chemistry.

Inorganic Chemistry

Bio-Chemistry

It is a branch of Chemistry that deals with the chemicals changes/reactions that occur inside living organisms. Biochemists research includes cancer and stem cell biology, infectious disease as well as membrane and structural biology and spans molecular biology, genetics, mechanistic biochemistry, genomics, evolution, and systems biology.

Sub-branches of Bio-Chemistry include:

  • Enzymology.
  • Endocrinology.
  • Clinical Biochemistry.
  • Molecular Biochemistry.

Bio Chemistry

Physical Chemistry

It is a branch of Chemistry that deals with the study of physical properties of molecules. It deals with the principles and methodologies of both chemistry and physics. Basically, it is the study of how chemical structure impacts physical properties of a substance. An example is baking brownies, as you’re mixing materials and using heat and energy to get the final product.

Which Are The Oldest Trees On Earth

A tree, in botany, is defined as a plant consisting woody tissues. It is made up of a large, strong and hard woody trunk which allows it to withstand the air, pressure and heavy rain. It consists of four main parts: Trunk, Branches, Leaves, and Roots. Trees play a significant role in moderating climate, removing soil erosion, removing carbon dioxide from the air, and most importantly they produce oxygen and food. They are also a home to many animals and birds.OLDEST TREES ON EARTH

How To Determine Age Of A Tree

A tree’s lifespan is determined by its rings. A tree-ring is a unique ring inside the branches and trunks of trees. They can be seen if you cut a transverse section of a tree. Each ring marks a complete cycle of seasons or one year. These rings are of two types. Dark rings, and Light rings. Age of a tree can be determined by counting the number of Dark rings.  For example, if a tree has 70 dark rings, it is 70 years old. This process is known as Dendrochronology. It is useful for determining the timing of events and rates of change in the environment.

Another method to determine a tree’s age is by following the year when the tree was planted to the present year. By this method, you can easily and accurately determine its age. Another method to determine its age is by the following method.

Calculate the circumference of a tree by a measuring tape. Measure it in feet or inches, 4.5 feet above the ground. Then, calculate the diameter of the tree by the simple Math formula Diameter = circumference / 3.142 (pi). Once you find out the diameter, divide it by 2 to get the radius. And by this method, the age of a tree can be determined.

Oldest Trees On Earth

Trees have been a source of life for thousands of years. Some trees discovered are a decade old, some are thousands of years old. Some trees are as old as 3500 years. While others are just a year old. Some of the oldest trees planted are:

  • Old Tjikko.
  • Methuselah.
  • Llangernyw.
  • Zoroastrian Sarv.
  • Fitzroya Cupressoides.
  • One Hundred Horses Chestnut.

Old Tjikko

The Old Tjiko tree is 5 meters tall. This tree is roughly 9558 years old. It is located on Fulufjället Mountain in Dalarna province of Sweden. Its appearance may fool you as it closely resembles Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, but it is a tree that has regenerated new trunks, branches, and roots over millennia. Many people question this tree’s survival, but it only survived thousands of years due to vegetative cloning. Geologist Leif Kullman discovered this tree and named it after his dead dog.OLD TJIKKO

Methuselah

Another oldest tree situated in California’s the White Mountains is 5000 years old. It is a bristlecone pine tree and the oldest non-clonal tree in the world. This tree is mentioned in Genesis as genealogy linking Adam to Noah. gnarled, This twisted Methuselah is situated in a Forest Service secret, for its protection. When it was measured in the 1950s it had a height of about 225 feet but at some point back in 1980s, the top was broken off due to a storm. Now this tree is about 70.30 meters tall.Methuselah

Llangernyw

This lush beautiful tree is 4000 years old. It was planted in the village of Conwy, North Wales churchyard of St. Digain’s Church. It is about 10.75 meters tall. In the mid-1990s, church oil tanks were built due to which a lot of the dead wood was removed from the site which makes dating the age of the tree more difficult. It was then inducted into a list of 50 Great British Trees by the UK Tree Council in 2002.Llangernyw

Zoroastrian Sarv

Zoroastrian Sarv is commonly known as Sarv-e Abarkuh is the second-oldest tree in Asia. It is a tree in central Iran in an Iranian National Monument. It is a Cupressus sempervirens tree which is approximately 4000 years old.  This tree was planted back in time when ancient people in Central Asia were inventing wheels. It is a major tourist attraction with a height of 25 meters and circumference of 18 meters.Zoroastrian Sarv

Fitzroya Cupressoides

Fitzroya Cupressoides is a tall, thin, and lush tree situated in Andes Mountains in Chile and Argentina. It is thought to be more than 3,600 years old. It normally grows to about 45 to 60 meters, but occasionally more than 70 meters in Argentina, and has about 5 meters trunk in diameter. It has small, narrow leaves are typically arranged in whorls of three.  This tree’s reddish brown wood is lightweight and is used for general construction.Fitzroya Cupressoides

One Hundred Horses Chestnut

The Tree of One Hundred Horses is an enormous and sweet chestnut located on Linguaglossa road near the Mount Etna volcano in Sicily. It is thought to be between 2000 and 4000 years old. It has a circumference of 57.9 meters. The height of the tree is 22 meters. Its name comes from the old legend that during a thunderstorm hundred knights sought refuge under this tree’s branches. One Hundred Horses Chestnut

Education: Its Meaning And Importance

Education is an important medium of acquiring skills and knowledge. It is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include teaching, training, storytelling, and discussion.

Our learning begins at home. Thereafter, as we grow we go to schools, colleges, and other educational institutes. It brings positive changes in human life. It enhances the knowledge, skill, and intelligence of a person and enables him to lead a successful life ahead.Education: Its Meaning And Importance

Types Of Education

Formal

A formal education is provided in schools where a person may learn basic and academic skills. Children start their schooling from the nursery but often formal education begins in elementary schools and continues till higher education.

Informal

Informal education is not given in a school. When a person does not use a professional learning method and learns stuff by himself or an adult, that is included in informal education. Example of informal education may be parents teaching their children how to do day to day work. You can also get an informal education by reading books or visiting educational websites.

Non-Formal

In non-formal education, a person who is not admitted to a school or any other professional institution can learn literacy, other basic skills or job skills. It includes adult literacy education, home education, distance learning and school equivalency preparation.

Advantages Of Education

  • An educated person commands respect in the society.
  • It makes us humble. It creates awareness and expands our vision. We become more aware of our-self, about the society, about everything that surrounds and affect our lives.
  • We can help uneducated people to learn on its basis.
  •  Earning opportunities are always open for an educated person.
  • It enables us to earn our livelihood and empowers us to get a good job.
  • It helps us develop a disciplined life.

education

Bilingual Education

The teaching of academic content in two languages, one that is native and other that is secondary is known as bilingual education. Having the ability to speak multiple languages is a strength and benefit to be leveraged on behalf of student success.

E-Learning Management System

E-learning or Electronic learning is the learning system based on formalized teaching but with the help of electronic sources such as a computer. While teaching can be based in or out of the classrooms, the use of computers and the Internet forms the major element of E-learning. It is equally salient to take forward the concept of non-electronic teaching with the aid of books and lectures notes, but the significance and effectiveness of technology-based learning cannot be taken lightly or disregarded completely.

elearning

Manipulation Of Social-Emotional Learning

It involves the process through which humans acquire and successfully apply the knowledge necessary to understand and manage sentiments. It helps a person in setting and achieving positive goals, establishing and preserving positive and healthy relationships and in making responsible decisions. It includes self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, goals and responsible decision making.

SEL

Helping Students Motivate Themselves

It is the responsibility of parents and teachers to help students in motivating them. Motivation gives a person a power to push past his limitations and achieves things on a greater scale. It helps one to not give up and continuously work hard to achieve their goals.

We can motivate students and build up their confidence by praising their hard work and efforts and by not comparing their IQ level with another student as every person has a different level of intelligence. Teachers should also engage students in different co-curricular activities and debate sessions to help them overcome their shyness.

Importance Of Co-Education

The system of bringing both boys and girls together in a certain place to teach them together is called CoEducation. This system creates a spirit of companionship between boys and girls as well as boys overcome their inquisitiveness and girls their shyness. It develops the personality of men and women and generates a feeling of comradeship between them.

Moreover, it helps in developing a harmonious relationship and a sense of co-operation, which helps in the progress of the country. It also helps children to respect each other since childhood and aids them in understanding each other and as well becoming broad-minded. They interrelate freely with one another, thus beating shyness and hesitation.importance of co-ed

Conclusion

A child by nature is curious and a critical observer and he needs a platform to work independently under the supervision of a teacher who plays a role of a mentor and guide. However, the situation is different in this era, still, some schools are unable to provide an environment that can give students a chance to express his feeling and enjoy the teaching-learning process.

Students are not empty containers, they need constant support and a fair, stimulating environment to prove their abilities and worth. They also have the ability to change themselves and society if properly guided by an adult and trusted.
