In life, we all have to deal with certain things we never asked for, under eye circles are one of them! Who would ever want dark circles of all things to have to worry for? Well, there are many people out there, male and females equally having under eye circles.
While they may not bother males as much as they do females. A few home remedies that we’ve gathered at Try Articles would benefit both. But, before we jump to the solutions let’s take a look at the causes.
What Causes Under Eye Circles?
It’s been this understood concept that dark circles ‘develop’ due to overworking, being perpetually tired or staying up too late as a habit. It’s the periorbital skin that shows the most color and gives it all away. What is the periorbital skin you ask?
The thin skin around our eyelids is called the periorbital skin. It is 0.5mm thick. It is this thin skin that makes the blood vessel tissue much more visible than the rest of the skin. Hence any cluster of blood vessels in the periorbital are would show up dark and create that dark under eye look. Not, to worry though, all that needs to be done is to help a good blood circulation around that area, freshen it up a bit.
The following home remedies, work like you’ve cast a spell. Try them out, you won’t be disappointed. Let’s bust those nasty dark circles out of our lives!
Home Remedy 1 – Rosewater
No surprise here! About time we all know the beautiful benefits of rosewater for our skin. The task is very simple, just soak 2 cotton pads in cold rosewater and place them over your eyelids and relax for 15-20 minutes. You can repeat this as often as you like in a week and you will notice visible results after a few usages.
Home Remedy 2 – Cucumber Slices
Cool as a cucumber, they say! well, they don’t say wrong. Cucumber, due to being naturally high, in water content is a great pick for this purpose. All you need to do is cut the cucumber in slices and place 2 slices over your eyelids. Just make sure the cucumber is cold when you do this. It helps with the cooling effect. You will notice an immediate fresh effect around your eye area. You may practice this remedy as often as you like.
Home Remedy 3 – Potatoes
The natural bleaching properties in a potato aid very well in lightening the dark circles. There are 2 ways to utilize the benefits of potatoes. We can slice up a cold potato and place the slices over our eyelids for 15-20 minutes, the regular drill. Or we can also, grate the potato, squeeze out the juice/water from it and place that in the refrigerator till it turns cold.
When that’s done, take it out in a bowl and dip 2 cotton pads in it and then place those over your eyelids. Let the bleaching powers of the potato juice take over and lighten those unwanted dark circles. Repeat as per requirement.
Home Remedy 4 – Almond Oil
Almond oil, not just any though. It’s the sweet almond oil that we’re interested in. It serves two purposes; lightens and moisturizes. Don’t we all just love it when you get more bang for the buck? Again, two ways to use this remedy.
First, with just the almond oil alone. Take a few drops of the oil and gently massage the contour of your eyes till the part where the dark circles extend. Do this for a good 5-10 minutes or till the skin soaks up all the oil. Leave overnight, and rinse with water the following morning. Repeat as per your requirement.
The second way requires honey. Honey is rich in anti-oxidants that boost up the results. Only add 1 tsp of honey to 5-6 drops of the almond oil. Apply to your dark circles and leave it on overnight. Rinse with water the following morning and say hello to soft-looking but not puffy eyes!
Home Remedy 5 – Mint Leaves
We all are well aware of the cooling sensation we get out of chewing a mint flavored bubblegum and how it uplifts are moods and gives us hat fresh feeling. Well, mint can do the same for those annoying little dark circles too. Mint contains anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties. These properties help draw in the blood vessels to help them loosen up and diminish the blue-ish dark appearance of them under the periorbital skin.

Blend the mint leaves and leave them in the fridge to cool up for a bit. Once cold, apply directly to the dark circles and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. If the cooling sensation is over-whelming leave it on for a lesser time. Wipe it off with a clean cloth, rinsing is not necessary unless you feel the need to.
Blend the mint leaves and add 1 Tbsp of tomato juice. Make a nice paste and apply it to the dark circles. Leave it on for 5 minutes and not more than that. Wash off with cold water and repeat as necessary.
Blend the mint leaves and add the juice of half of a lemon. Apply the paste on the dark circles for 10-15 minutes. And this time rinse with a slightly lukewarm water. Repeat till you see the desired results.
With all these tricks aside, the most important for getting rid of dark circles will always be health related. Two factors that will help speed up this whole journey is, to drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep.
Sleep being more important as that is the time when the repairing starts. So the more you rest the more time you give your body to repair itself. It’s a simple natural phenomenon.
