Life Cycle Of A Fly

The stages of the life of a fly go through:

  • Egg
  • Larva
  • Pupa
  • Adult fly

The life cycle of a fly starts when a female fly lays eggs in a favorable place. She likes to find a place where the larvas can feed for a time. Therefore a female fly lays eggs on food or rotting wood.  There are some species of fly which lay eggs on rotting flesh or corpses of animals. These eggs look similar to small grains of rice.

Do you know that a female fly can lay up to 150 eggs at a time? So you can quickly end up a fly infestation in your home or your property.

Life Cycle Of A Fly

Once the eggs hatch, limbless white creatures come out which are called maggots. They feast rotten food or flash around them on their own in order to continue the growth.  Maggots live in this stage for a few hours to a couple of days.

After that, they enter the pupal stage which is different from the larval stage.  They appear large and their skin color is changed i.e. red brown yellow and black.  Also, they no longer look like cylindrical maggots now.

The fly pupa struggles to find a dark,  quiet place to go through the stage.  At this stage, flies start to develop wings, rest of the body shape of the average housefly and legs, etc. At last, they turn into an adult. After that, they fly off and find places to feed and eventually to lay eggs and start the process all over again.
